Horsey Pursuit!
One of our county's finest caught himself engaged in an all out hot pursuit of a couple really bad guys this morning!  Being on top of my game, even with only having had just a few sips of coffee, I still managed to think of getting content for the website today!  The blond headed horse was weaving all over the road!  Rumor has it, they were spotted at Briggs Bar in Monico the night before.  At one point, that reckless blond SOB came clear into my lane.  When the drunken horse left my lane and started leading to the South, I jammed the old yota into 1st gear and spit gravel to get the hell out of there before gunfire erupted!!

Evening Storms
Storms are approaching tonight...

Just got back from Mike's baseball game where they continued their losing streak, but they have a damn good time!!  Mike is really playing well this year!  The other night he batted in the only 2 two runs for his team and has also been playing well in the field.  Also, the other night, there were a couple coaches on an opposing team that really need to work on basic life skills and stop working towards being voted Neanderthal Super Coach (NSC) of the year.  The two teams that were playing have the worst record in the league, haha, a bunch of young kids...  Their team "ten runned" us in four innings...  That means they were winning by ten runs after four innings, although, I swear it was only three, and the game can technically be called a complete game.  The game had only been playing for a little over an hour.  In the last couple of years when that happened, good sportsmanship prevailed and the coaches on both teams let the kids keep playing to work on their skills and get some much needed practice.  This is a great opportunity to put in the smaller guys and let them get some playing time or try out a new pitcher.  But not these dudes...  One NSC called from the dugout the moment they were up by ten, the third base NSC started heading towards his dugout saying "game over, ten run rule...".  Our coaches asked if they could keep playing...  Without so much as missing a beat he quickly quipped, "nope, we're done..." and walked away.  They didn't even have the common courtesy to wait until the inning had ended.  Instead, they made our players walk off the field asking "what happened?" and "what did we do wrong?".  These NSC's coach other sporting teams and are known in the community...  At tonights game, most of the parents were talking about their asinine behavior and the lack of sportsmanship from these NSC's.  I think the kids walked away with a different feeling about these known members of the community...  I know that I have a whole different view of them now!  As do many other parents, from what I heard tonight.

Tonight, the team we played against ten runned us, again...  But, this time, the opposing teams coaches willingly played for another inning and a half and would have played longer if the rain hadn't started.  The opposing coach was even giving our players tips and pointers.  People wonder sometimes where athletes learn poor sportsmanship...  I know one place they learn, right here in Crandoom, and supposedly from respected members of the community.  HA!

Anyhow...  Also been doing battle with comment spammers...  These effers are relentless!  Some good stuff coming in.  I have coded up some ways to catch some of them, but the few who actually come here and post spam will get on the site.  However, each comment is emailed directly to me.  And in each comment I have included a special encrypted link that only requires a quick click for the spammers post to be nuked.  You may see comment spam from time to time, but don't worry, once I check my email, it will be gone.

Have a good night y'all!!  I gotta go see if I have any beer left and try to get a decent night of no sleep before another crappy day at work.

Early Morning Wake Up
{{{{Y A W N}}}}
A vacation day and yet I am made to get up at the ass-crack of dawn to whisk away Michelle and Sam to the school so that they can hitch a ride on a motor coach to Shitcago for 3 days...  They're probably sleeping on the bus, me, not so much...  They will be seeing Blue Man Group, the Shed Aquarium, and doing other band-camp type activities with the school band.  Even BP South is going as a chaperon, God help them all...  I can hear it now, "hey dudes, when that band man goes to bed, there is this sweet little micro-brewery down on Michigan Ave., let's go".  So, why don't I go back to bed?  I am one of those peeps that once I am up and doing anything more than a simple trip to the toilet, I am up for the day.  I will go wake Mike up in a half hour or so and get him all set for school and then make yet another trip up to the school to drop him off.  Once that is done, I will head back home and work on a couple of web sites that need attention.  In truth, I will probably spend more time surfing the web and screwing off on my vacation day over programming.  I am finding that as my IT years pass, I am less enthused about programming and grunt level work.  I'm beginning to like planning, implementing, managing more.

However, as I have found, these last few weeks, implementation really sucks too!  Especially when clueless induhviduals decide to spend great gobs of money on yet another useless Java-based software application package that just seemingly cannot integrate with Coldfusion, although, the vendor swears it does!!  The vendor has even provided us with sample code that fails miserably!  Imagine that, Coldfusion, which sits on top of Java appears not to work with another Java application.  Hmmmm...  Apparently it would work wonderfully if we'd pony up the money and upgrade our version of Coldfusion.  But hey, we can't spend money on new versions of software for our core web infrastructure, which we're years behind in...  Nope, we have to keep wasting great gobs of money on useless applications that won't integrate into our site!!  Super...

No Internet ~ Charter Cable Sucks!!
We have been without cable tv and Internet access since about 1:30 this afternoon...  You may be wondering how I can post this message...  Easy!  My neighbor has an unsecured WIFI connection that must be connected to DSL!!  God bless morons who don't know how to change their default SSID or even change the default password!  This is like taking baby from a candy.

Well, gotta run, I have a bunch of their bandwidth to use up...  Oh yeah, I called Charter, which is owned by another Micro$oft moron, Paul Allen...  "We are aware of an outage in your area..."

Basaball bin bery, bery goo to me...
Come on, say it the same way Garrett Morris did when doing Chico Escuela on SNL...

Mike had another first tonight!  First time pitching!!  He didn't do that bad for his first time out!!  I was actually bery, bery proud of him!  When he concentrated, he lobed up strikes and a number of kids hit them, but the infield support to secure the outs just wasn't there.  Mike got to pitch the last 2/3 of an inning in what was a really close game until the 5th inning.  Then the Hawks pretty much started teeing off on out tired pitcher and the first reliever.  Mike was dinged for a number of runs, well, quite a few runs, haha, but he did strike out the last two outs!  He also had a good game at third base up until he was called upon to pitch.  He's learning...  He needs to learn how to stop picking at rocks in the dirt when he is supposed to be paying attention too, haha...

It was a good night!  I took the new little camera up there and snapped some pics.  I will have to debate whether or not they get posted here.  Most likely, select photos will be emailed or placed in the secret place, haha.

Crap, it is getting late...  Oh yeah, BP made reservations for beer fest camping!  He best not sell that little camper between now and then!!!

Baseball Season
Mike had his first little league game of the year last night.  It was a night of firsts for him...  The first time he played the infield, he played third base...  The first time he played an entire game...  The first time he threw a player out at home plate...  In his first few years he was stuck playing in right field and usually shared that position with a couple of other smaller kids whose parents weren't coaches or influential people in the community.  That's right Mike, your parents are nothing more than transplanted city folk, haha.  Mike is the only one in the family who was born up here!  I wasn't able to attend due to work and then when I got off work and made it home, they were playing an away game and I was on call and needed to be near the house.  Mike has also had a few chances to pitch during the practices leading up to the season.  The few people I have spoken with said that Mike was doing good with his pitching!  Cool, maybe he will see some time pitching this year and who knows, maybe he can be a starter next year.  31 years ago, my team, the Pirates, won the 1976 little league championship in Shorewood, WI and I was a starting pitcher.  I was actually pretty good, haha, yeah, fat old me was once good an an athletic activity...  I'd pat myself on the back, but ever since those days, the tennis elbow won't allow me to reach...  My dad taught me how to throw a knuckle ball and I'll never be the same.

And just when you thought...
Your job could not get any crappier, wow, the gates to hell open up and start pulling at your legs!  I have said it a million times before, and I will keep saying it, JAVA SUCKS!!!  Some of the stuff we use at the day job relies on Java and man, am I sorry for it...  Unbelievable how truly crappy that language is, not to mention the wonderful JVM on a Winblows server.  Good god, some of the stuff I hate the most and I just cannot get away from it.

I may not even finish up this project before I start looking into what it will take to get my CDL back and get back to driving truck, bad back and all...  My buddy, Big Joe, up there in Superior, WI always used to ask if it was "time to grab that big old wheel" when I worked for PDS, back in the day.  I am thinking that time couldn't come soon enough!

One good thing...  Only about 32 days until the Great Northern Beer Festival!!  Hopefully I make it!

Oh yeah, if ya hadn't noticed, I enabled the comments, feel free to call me a whiner...  I'll probably just delete your comment, haha.

Dell and Ubuntu!
I have talked up the Ubuntu Linux distro for some time now on these pages and have helped a few friends make the conversion from Winblows to Linux.  I was very pleased to see this today.  I know, some of you out there despise Dell and all that happy horse poopy.  But, in all my years of IT and with all my home purchases of Dell equipment, I have never had a problem bigger than a hard drive crapping out.  It took 6 almost 7 years for the drive on my first Dell to die and that was due to my own neglect and not cleaning out the dust bunnies, haha.  Same thing with work...  All Dell servers, well, I guess we do have a couple of new IBM boxes, but for the most part, we do Dell.  No real problems to speak of...  Don't buy the bottom of the barrel Dell...  Just like anything else in this world, you get what you pay for!  I always go mid level and usually only buy XPS class stuff.  Stay away from Sempron and Celeron chips and life will be better for you...  Stay away from the cheaper Dell integrated components and life will be better for you...  Stay away from Vista and run Ubuntu and life will be MUCH better for you.

If you wanna get away from the grip that Bill Gates and Windows is putting on you...  If you are not experienced with loading an OS from scratch, then this is the best alternative!

I saw this quote today, it was in a Slashdot reply...  How true!!
For the first time, the learning curve, legacy hardware and software compatibility and cost of adoption for the latest Windows operating system (Vista) is greater than a well-known Linux distribution. Microsoft must be congratulated for this stupendous engineering effort.
Edit...  Dell apparently removed the original link I had here...  I have replaced it with a link at CNET that will probably become outdated and removed...  Whatever happened to archiving stuff?  Jeez...  DKHT did send me a link to the Direct2Dell site about Dell expanding their Linux options.  Thanks DKHT!!

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)
