| MoBlog... | ||
|
I had a ton of pictures on the camera phone and removed them all before the GG Brew Fest in Superior, WI last April. I never got around to uploading them to the MoBlog. I have been slowly, but surely, been getting caught up. The MoBlog is terribly slow! I think I have a database issue or something... Not sure, but it seems to have died since moving it to the new server. Everything else has increased in speed with the exception of that. I play with it when I have time, but it really isn't a priority. If you visit, give it 10-20 seconds or so to come up. Kinda like the web cam image above... Suzanne sent me an e-mail today saying it's about time we clear that tree or move the cam, haha. I agree, but... Some year. I think I found the slowdown in the MoBlog. Shouldn't be slow now... If anyone notices it taking a long time to load, except those of you on dial-up, sorry DkHT, lemme know. |

| A Happy Day for Dads | ||
So far this has been a good Dad's Day...
Oh yeah, I've yet to write about GeoTruk1 II... The long and the short of it is that Michelle blew up the Dodge Intrepid while heading to her mom's house. We've had the car since 1998 when we bought it used with 50k miles on it from a dealer in Madison. It is now the headache of a dealer in Waukesha with nearly 180k miles on it. We could have probably stuck some more money into the Intrepid to get it back up and running right, but having that many miles on it just made me nervous, especially since Michelle travels to her mom's house a few times a year, usually without me. She wound up getting a 2000 Dodge Durango with only 34k miles for a pretty decent price. Here it is... ![]() 1 "GeoTruk" used without the express written permission of DonKeyHoeTee, I friggin stole it!!! Hahahahahahaha

| Family Reunions and Genealogy | ||
|
We have had a family web site in some form dating back to 1996, or maybe it was early 1997, I can't remember. However, it wasn't until after my grandfather died in 2001, when my aunt gave all of us a family tree that she had been working on for the Hamilton side of the family, that I got all jazzed up about genealogy. That is when I added the "What's In A Name" section of the website. My aunt tracked back the Hamilton family into the 1400's in Scotland. It was so cool to see Mary, Queen of Scots in the family tree! It wasn't very cool to see how she departed this Earth. Up until this year, I had only ever known of about 30 Huml's that I was related to, that number is on the high side. My father's side of the family knew almost nothing about their past... It really didn't seem to bother anyone... I suspect other issues may have kept them from caring or wanting to share, I am not sure. I've never even seen a picture of my grandfather. My grandmother never talked about the family and she died about 18 years ago, before I could get interested in all of this. I even found out my grandmother and her family lived in Antigo! Only about 40 miles from me. Earlier this year, I was contacted via a posting I had made on a genealogy forum about the Huml name. I posted what little I knew about my grandparents info. I received a very nice reply from a lady named Ginnie. This was the start of something cool! She gave me names, dates, more names, more dates... I was a bit overwhelmed! Ginnie, is a first cousin once removed, her grandparents are my great-grandparents, learn all about cousins here. Ginnie has opened doors for me on the Huml side and now I am in contact with cousins galore! Ginnie also gave me my first ever visual of my grandfather! She sent me this scanned image of an Anton Huml family portrait from around 1920. My grandfather is front-left. I started getting so much information that I had to get software to keep track of it all! What started at 30 names has grown to over 170 names! All of this in 5-6 months. The funny thing about connecting with Ginnie is that when we lived in DeForest, WI., she was only living about 2 miles away from us!! But wait, it gets a little funnier! When we sold our house, we used First Weber, Ginnie worked for them, but we just happened to get a different agent. Wouldn't that have been funnier than hell if we had contacted her to sell our house?? Small world stuff!! About 3 weeks ago, another very nice lady responded to a genealogy post I had made about my great-grandmothers name, Maria Nothof. I figured if I could not find out about the Huml name I would try to get as much info on the Nothof name as I could. Well, I now have four more generations of information on my great-grandmothers side!! The information goes back to the early 1700's! A million thanks to Barbara, my great-grandmother's great-grandniece for all the information. She even had information on the Huml side and has just given me my great-great-grandparent info!! She clued me in on how my great-grandparents met thanks to a great document that she had that was created in 1976. Now, thanks to Barbara's help, I am on the hunt for information on my great-great-grandparents! Francis Joseph Huml (b: Austria) and Anna Wonig Huml (b: 9/5/1820 in Bavaria(Bohemia?) -- d: 9/11/1909 in Lake Geneva, WI). What continues to make all of this really cool is that Michelle's aunt has a family tree for one side of her family too! If ever I can get all the Hamilton, Nothof, and Fehrman info into my software, we'll be up to hundreds, maybe even thousands, of names in the tree! I will have to work on one of my kids to get them jazzed on the family history so that all of the work and effort that has gone into this will not be lost!! I have probably spent hundreds of hours over the years on this stuff, it is nice to see it finally pay off. I have been passing the modified documents to the cousins as I make changes. One of the other great things to come about is that I am meeting Huml's that appear not to be related, or simply, I have not found the branch that ties us all together! I have been keeping a family tree for Vaclav Huml (b: 10/21/1844 d:1/22/1890) and Anna Maly Huml (b: 3/19/1844 d: 12/15/1896). Vince and Suzanne have been very helpful to me in keeping me up to date with their info. We all came from the same area, so I am certain that somewhere along the way, I can tie them to us! |

| Eagle River Beer Festival 2006 | ||
|
Wow... Pretty much all I can say! Wow... The weather was great, the beer was great, the people were great, the friends made were great, and the pictures didn't turn out too bad. I didn't take as many pictures this year with the cell phone as I did last year. This year was all about the beer, the Eagle River Beer Festival mantra. So, I spent more time getting out my little reference book, making notes, and enjoying the taste and discussion that followed each sample. Kudos to the guys and gals at the ERBF who made the event what it is!! A very special thanks to VaLynda at the front gate who allowed BP and I to stash all of our growlers and goodies in a box!!! I did quite a bit of work myself this year and for a time was even a member of the committee. I still help them out where I can with their website and in return I received a few comp tickets and a nice mention in their booklet this year. So, where are the pictures you ask? Click here or the link in the right nav!! Only 362 more days until ERBF 2007!! That is too long :( |

| The iPod That Grew Legs | ||
|
I don't think I will rant nearly as long as I suspected I would since I have had some time to cool off :) So, here is the story! Last week Saturday Mike was playing with a long-time friend in the yard in the early evening, after dinner. I like the kid; he is pretty decent, is always polite and seems ok. At some point in time, two other kids show up in the yard, I later find out they are Mike's friend's cousins. I have never seen the kids before. Before long Mike has them all running around in the house, checking out the fish tank and getting water and taking bathroom breaks. It gets loud so I send them outdoors. I am in the office farting around with my mistress, shhhh, don't tell Michelle!! Anywho, I hear more noise and commotion going on in the kitchen, refrigerator door being opened/closed a few dozen times, ice dispenser working in overdrive, and general loudness. I am getting a bit pissed so I head to the kitchen to boot their asses back outside. The only kids in the kitchen are the two dudes I have never seen before. I promptly tell them to get outta the house and play outside, not in my refrigerator. As they are heading down the stairs, the door to the garage is wide open and I tell them to make sure the door is closed. I watch as they head outside and close the door. Fast forward to about 8:15 PM... Kids are all gone. Sammi is walking around the house, I can tell she is looking for something, but I don't say anything. Finally she walks past me for about the 100th time and I cave in and ask, "what are you looking for?". She replies, my ipod. Great! We just got her a black ipod nano the week before, she used her Confirmation money, some savings, and Michelle and I bought her old MP3 player to fund it. I was not happy about the ipod to begin with, but it is her money... Frickin people are getting stabbed in cities all over the US because of those things. Not to mention the frickin software you need to run to use it. Useless in my opinion, but, not my call... I get a little pissed when she says she can't find it and I tell her she better get busy turning the house upside down looking for it. After a while of seeing her search the same damn seat cushion for the 20th time, I start looking too. She says it was on the kitchen counter with the ear buds wrapped around it. I tear apart the kitchen and the rest of the house. I already have my suspicions, but I also have a teenage girl who more than likely misplaced it on my hands too! What to do... Sammi is really upset now and I am pretty pissed too. I start grilling Mike about the boys that were over. A call is placed to his friend parents and they said they will talk with their boy but that the other kids went home already, they said they would call. Meanwhile, Sam calls Michelle at work to see if she saw the ipod. Michelle says "yes, on the kitchen counter, it was there before I went to work". Now I am friggin fuming! I talk with Michelle and we agreed that since we don't know who the hell these other kids are, we'll file a complaint with the police. She has the city officer sent over to the house. We tell him everything that happened. Mike gives the officer the name of his friend and the officer will go over there and get address info and follow up with the other boys. I was talking with the officer on his way out. I said if you can, tell the boys I don't wanna press charges, I just want the ipod back. I call the friends dad and talk with him about the other boys. He seemed a little annoyed with my questions about the other boys, hard to tell over the phone, but I told him that I didn't think his son was involved. Then he said, "I don't know why those boys would steal it, the tribe bought all the kids ipods and PSPs". Michelle calls a bit later with an update from the officer. He questioned one of the boys and he said he didn't have it. The other boy was sleeping and they tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't wake up. In my opinion, now would have been a great time for the officer to fire off a few rounds to wake his ass up! Instead, the officer said he would follow up the next day. He also said that he had the other boy reduced to tears in trying to get info and the officer felt the boy didn't take it. I tell Sammi to kiss that ipod goodbye and learn a lesson from all this. No matter how safe you think something is, it isn't. Fast forward to Sunday AM, about 10 AM or so. I am barely awake, about two sips into my coffee and just starting to check e-mail when Sammi says someone is in the driveway. I go out there and it is both families, great I am thinking, they've come to gang up on me:) The grandmother of the two boys we have never seen before wanted to come over to try to work this out. She said that grandpa questioned the one boy who was sleeping the night before, that boy told grandpa that he saw it, but that he saw Mike's friend playing with it, he even knew it was black. So now, grandma is pointing the finger at the other family, hell, they ARE family and now they are pointing the fingers at each other!! Grandma says she feels real bad for my daughter and offers to buy her an ipod. Whoa, get the hell outta here!! She offered to replace an ipod that she said her grandson saw the other kid touch? WTF?!?!? I tell her that is a nice gesture but that I cannot let her do that. I told her that sends the wrong message to her grandsons. Now mind you, I have already convicted each one of these dudes in my mind! But, I can't let grandma replace the ipod if she feels that her grandkids are innocent. They eventually leave agreeing to keep an eye out for it. Fast forward to Monday AM, garbage day... Michelle and Sam take the garbage to the curb. I had to go out to the garage to get something out of my car. As I step out into the garage, I catch a glimpse of something white on the floor out of the corner of my eye. I turn my head a bit and there it is!! I saw the ear bud against the black case. The friggin ipod was partially under one of the kids snowboards and on the floor!!! I called Michelle and Sam out to the garage, because they had just moved the nearby garbage, and asked them if they see what I am pointing to. Sammi freaks out; Michelle and I both say, almost in unison, "those little emmer effers ditched it in the garage!!". Michelle makes a few calls before she heads to bed that morning. Leaves a message with one family, talks with grandma, and then calls the PD. Holy crap, this is long! Hope I have enough space in the database for it!! Haha. There are new rules in place regarding friends in the house. We're glad it is back, but we are steering Mike towards making some new friends this summer. Fool me once shame on you... Fool me twice shame on me! I guess I was wrong about my rant length... Hahaha. 22 hours to beer fest!! |

| Congrats Sammi! | ||

Today, Sammi is making that big transition... Middle school to high school! Farmer Sam, Frosh, Rookie, Newbie, Bottom Feeder... Michelle went to her middle school graduation tonight and I went to Mikey's little league game. 4 more years!! Woohoo!! I cannot recall any kind of graduation when I squeaked out of middle school. I think they just said, "good luck, hope they don't beat you too badly". She would kill me if I posted a picture of her out here in her nice outfit and fresh coiffure. We'll post it in the family picture section soon enough, if you know where that is. If not ask, maybe I will let ya look:) It is getting kind of late, but I will have an interesting adventure/story to tell in the next couple of days... It will be titled "The iPod That Grew Legs". Basically, a couple of kids I have never seen who are friends of Mike's showed up to the house one day with Mike's other friend. I know that you already know where this is going... The 2 readers I have (yeah, the number went down from 3 when I took out the comments) are pretty smart, they know where this will go... Well, I don't wanna give up too much now. Til later... Beer fest is less than 5 days away! God, has it REALLY been 360 days since the last one? Seems like only yesterday!! |

DANG!! What the hell!?! This year is flying by! This month is gearing up to be a busy one!! Got the beer festival on June 10th, that will be a riot! Father's Day!! Huml Family Reunion in Lake Geneva, WI on June 24th!! And, another year older this month!! Have been kind of busy doing a some freelance programming for a company out of Wausau/Milwaukee and there is the prospect of some new web business coming in too! Might be doing three more sites in the next month. One is a hurry up deal and I am getting more info about that this weekend up in Eagle River. The family reunion plans are pretty much solid now! Back when we first started talking about the reunion with Ginnie, my new found cousin in Madison, I had planned to bring my laptop and scanner to the reunion to scan pictures and documents. Well, I wound up selling the laptop. Michelle, the great wife of a geek that she is, kindly suggested that we get another laptop so that I can scan pictures!! Damn, is she cool or what?!?!?! So, new lap-dog will be here soon, probably early next week. A new Dell XPS M140, sweet! And at a really, really great price!! The great price scored points with Michelle. So now I will be able to scan! I did buy a new scanner too, one that supports USB 2.0 and is only a one inch thick flatbed scanner that gets its power from the USB interface. Memorial Day weekend was nice! It was hot, but nice! I made it a four day weekend so that I could recuperate after getting that bronchitis junk again. I am getting so sick and tired of a friggin sniffle turning into a Doctors appointment to get friggin antibiotics! Yeah, I am whining! It is my site, I pay for it, deal with it:) Fish tank is doing great! Our little urchin is making more appearances and venturing further out! The 10 crabs and snails I picked up are definitely cutting into the algae! I am leaving the lights on a little longer now. I am going to split a big order of crabs and snails with a friend from work. We'll get 100 of each, half for his 46 gallon tank and half for my 55 gallon. He might throw some in his 120 gallon tank too. This month is also our employee appreciation month at work and our discount goes from 25% to 33%. I think we'll add a couple more fish this month and I have also been considering a protein skimmer. A $30 yellow tang doesn't seem so bad when ya get it for $20. Saw a big black bear the other day on my way to work! Big fella lumbered across the highway and I made sure to stop well short! My little Yota would hit him and flip over nose to tail for a mile:) Well, I think that is it for now... |

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)
