Charles Whitman... August 1st, 1966
Not many people know the name or the date or what he did 40 years ago...  I can't help but wonder if a prolonged exposure to high temperatures is what sent Charles Whitman over the edge and drove him to the point where he felt it necessary to scale the 307 foot University of Texas Tower and start shooting people.  With this heat, I can see how a man would be driven to do that!!  Crandon is frickin lucky there isn't a 307 foot tower here!!  Truth be told, scaling a 307 foot tower would kill me, but I bet the breeze would be nicer that high up.

The good news is that the heat is supposed to break real soon, which is a damn good thing, cuz so am I!!  Michelle will be on a quest after her 4-day rotation to get us quotes for central air.  Enough is enough!!  I could give two shits about the cost right now.  One of two things will happen...
  1. The heat stops and never returns because we bought a friggin air conditioner!!
  2. The heat continues, but I won't give a flying rip because I will be locked away in coolness!!
BTW: I am not trying to poke fun at what Charles Whitman did...  A terrible thing that 15 people were killed and so many others hurt.  It is my way to bring attention to the 40th anniversary of the tragic event and, to also wonder, what the hell drives people to do what they do...  Is it the heat?  My friend, MO, was up visiting from the big shitty of Milwaukee and he was talking about how they're going crazy down there killing each other and flippin out in the heat.  With every passing year, it gets worse and worse for me.  Which also leads me to ponder another question...  When people retire, why in the hell do they go to where it is HOT??????  Morons I say!!!  Hahahaha

I will say that at least my current employer works very diligently to make sure our air conditioner at work keeps us nice and cool!!  Unlike that frickin QuadraMed job I had!!  Sit in that frickin place with all them computers blasting and 85% of the time the AC was broken.  I bet they are suffering this year!!  I should drop them a line one of these days.

Beerfest... The Movie?? SWEET!!!
BP South sent me a cool link tonight!!  A link to watch the trailer for Beerfest!  This is from the same people that did Super Troopers, which is one of those mindless funny flicks that ya just gotta watch, haha.  I will put the embedded video link from ifilm.com here.  I replaced the often "down for maintenance" video from ifilm with one from YouTube.com.

Thanks, BP!!!

The Tuffies Have Been Relocated!
We have found a new home for the Niger Triggerfish and the two Three-Spotted Domino Damsels from our fish tank.  The Triggerfish refused to leave his rock during the capture process, so, the rock went with him!  As for the Damsels...  Everyone has been telling me how hard they are to catch, well; I was able to do it pretty easy!  It took a bit of time, but I used the two net approach and played pong with them behind a rock until they eventually swam too hard and into one of the nets waiting for them.  Where did they go, you ask?  They went to a nice 95 gallon aggressive aquarium owned by one of our fish techs.  I am sure they will have a happy life terrorizing or perhaps, will even be bullied by some other tuffies, haha.

Lessons learned...  Never start a tank with cheap Domino Damsels, they are bastards!  Never keep a Niger Triggerfish with snails, crabs, and other inverts, he will eventually eat them.  Read more before making a decision to buy fish!  It wasn't until after I owned the Triggerfish did I hear that he loved eating the inverts.

Now the tank is left with the following:
  • One Yellowstripe Maroon Clownfish
  • One Blue Devil Damselfish
  • Three Blue-Green Chromis
  • Bunch of Glove Polyp coral
  • One Red Mushroom Coral
  • Some mystery coral
  • 20+ empty snail and crab shells thanks to Niger Triggerfish
  • 4 large Turbo Snails
  • 4 or 5 Larger Crabs
  • Some kind of cool urchin that only comes out at night.
We are also in the second week of curing 50+ pounds of live rock, thanks to Mom and Russ, to add to the 28 pounds currently in the tank.  We have maybe another week or two of curing before the nitrite and nitrate levels will be safe enough to start slowly introducing the rock to the tank.

Replay...
A repost from July 12th, 2005...  Very, very appropriate for the weather we're getting...

Sammi gave me a poem to put out here, from a collection of poems by Shel Silverstein, all copyrights belong to the author. Reprinted without their permission, but hey, they'd understand, it's freakin HOT!!
It's hot!
I can't get cool,
I've drunk a quart of lemonade.
I think I'll take my shoes off
And sit around in the shade.

It's hot!
My back is sticky,
The sweat rolls down my chin.
I think I'll take my clothes off
And sit around in my skin.

It's hot!
I've tried with 'lectric fans,
And pools and ice cream cones.
I think I'll take my skin off
And sit around in my bones.

It's still hot!
I will catch you later...  I must go shed my skin and lay beneath my ceiling fan and try to get some sleep.  Hopefully tonight, my drunkin moron of a neighbor doesn't come home at bar close and decide to once again park her truck in the middle of her yard and crank up the country western crapola at top volume, all the while whistling and whooping it up like she was at a friggin concert.

New moblog images... New camera phone...
I caught myself back up on phone pics, check out the moblog!  I got a new phone too, hopefully the image quality will be a little bit better with the 1.3 megapixel camera.  They seem to be a little better, but I still have to get used to the camera.  It's not like it is supposed to look great, haha, it is a phone.  Well, a phone, camera, computer, all in one.  It is an HTC 8125 made for Cingular, but since it is a GSM phone, it can be hacked so that it works on the CellularOne network, haha.  It also does video, but it saves the video in MP4 format, so you need to use QuickTime to view them.  That sucks!  I hate friggin QuickTime or any of that proprietary Apple crap!!

I've wanted one of these phones for some time, it had to have built-in 802.11b/g wifi so that I could check e-mail or browse the web from any hotspot.  It also had to run Windows Mobile OS so that I could run all my favorite Pocket PC applications.  So far I am very impressed with the unit, plus, for the price I paid for it, it was literally a steal.  I am waiting for the 2 gig MiniSD card to arrive.  Once it does, I will transfer all my applications from my current HP H4355 to the new phone.

If anyone is interested, I will be selling my HP H4355!  I should be able to get $200 or so from eBay with the extra stuff included.  But, if anyone who comes to Huml.org wants it, I will let it go for $175.  Here is a link to the HP product site with all the manuals, etc...  I can send more details and pictures if anyone is interested.  Here are more specs.

Bummer!
Within the last week we have lost both of our True Percula Clownfish.  I found half of one and got it out of the tank.  The other one must have been a tasty treat for the crabs and the other fish.  I bought them last month when our employee discount was bigger due to employee appreciation month.  I am still pissed that they are gone, but financially, it wasn't that bad.  I think it was those damned old nasty Three-Spot Domino Damsels that did them in!  If they weren't so hard to catch, I would net them and flush them!!

Here is a picture of the dearly departed...

Video Two fer...
I dunno why, but today I wanted to post something and didn't have much to say...  While surfin the web I found a video over at YouTube.com that I liked.  Dolf turned me onto the Eagles of Death Metal well over a year ago now.  My Java hating bud, Ed, posts videos on his site every Friday, I figured I would give it a shot myself...  I hope everyone is having a fantastic and long holiday weekend!!

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)
