| I am behind! | ||
|
This past weekend, BP, PS, Joz, and myself went out to the Crandon International Raceway and ran some sleds and drink some beers. Well, those guys ran sleds, I ran one lap and concentrated more on the beer drinking! I stick with what I know... Which is obviously NOT fuel usage statistics, hehe. Anywho, I got a ton of pics from the day on both the new Canon S2 and on the camera phone. I've been a lazy ass and have not gotten anything done with them. Plus I got about a half dozen little movies I have to save in a more, downloadable, friendly format. The AVI files are about 50 megabytes each! If I run them through Movie Maker they will come out to be a meg or two. The day was fun... Blurry, but fun... I am trying to e-mail a few pictures up to the MoBlog but Charter, my crappy ISP, is having issues with SMTP tonight. I'll leave the e-mail up tonight and see if it sends. I am off to bed, enough jerkin around with e-mail tonight! |

| Oh, oh, looky what I found!!! | ||
I happened by this just moments after making my last post!! Look at this! A chart showing US oil demand from 1950 to 2002. I snagged it from this site, in case it should disappear.![]() You can see the muscle car era!! Then you can see when we castrated every engine produced and/or shipped to the US. |

| Sports & Stuff | ||
|
I can't even recall the last time I wrote about anything sports related. I used to have a dedicated section on the website for the Green Bay Packers. Complete schedule, write up with my thoughts after every game, and now... Nuthin. Why? Probably because they just don't spark that fire in me. I don't see them doing much this year. First 6 games, they may only win 2. I think most stick and ball sports have now gotten to the point where it is just a bunch of greedy SOB's who are really good at whining and blaming other people for their failures. Hell, I used to be a huge baseball fan when I was younger. Now seeing the money that these steroid induced monsters make, makes me sick. Thankfully I have always hated basketball. As long as agents like that Drew Rosenhaus are out there inflating the egos of these idiots, it'll just keep getting worse. I don't think that professional hockey will be the only professional sports series to lose a season due to contractual issues. It'll happen to the NFL or MLB, someday. The owners are just as bad as the players. Even NASCAR is getting to be the same way. Drivers are signing contracts to drive for other teams a year and a half from now, while they are still under a contract with another team. Baffles me how that can happen! All you see and hear is the same whining and casting of blame on others for their poor performance. Just like stick and ball. I long for the days of 1970's stock car racing. Hell, all I could do was listen to an occasional radio broadcast or read the results in the paper, but I was much more excited about it then. I love all forms of racing, because of the speed and the skill involved in handling the vehicles. But all the crap that goes along with it is getting to be a little too much. NASCAR racing has not been the same, to me, since Dale Earnhardt Sr. died. I've heard other people say that too. It's hard for me to share Mike's enjoyment of professional sports. I find myself responding to his comments about a team, or a player, with a whole lot of cynicism. We had a long discussion the other day about how the Milwaukee Brewers suck (will be interesting to see Google rank on that, hehe). Hmmm, new website idea? TheMilwaukeeBrewersSuck.com :) I probably shouldn't do that, haha. He'll be a 10 year old cynic running around telling all his little buddies, "any player who is represented by Drew Rosenhaus is a piece of $&*$ &%$% from @&+% *^$# who &%@* ^~^@. :) Pro athletes today do not want to be idolized by kids, they want the money, and most will come right out and admit as much. Ok, enough of that:) The next time I write about sports will be after the Packers play week six. 2 and 4 is my prediction, as much as it hurts to say. I just hope we don't slide into a couple of crappy decades after Brett leaves. It'll make it easier not to watch, haha. |

| WinkFlash.com Photos | ||
|
We received the photos from WinkFlash.com today. Overall, I am pretty happy with the results! They put the photos into a couple of cardboard mailers, one for the two 8x10 pictures and one for the 4x6 prints. They include an index print for the 4x6 photos in the batch, 40 per batch. I had three batches, two with 40 pics and one with 2 pics. They put their cardboard mailers inside a cardboard USPS Priority Mail mailer. Hard to bend that sucker over!! Upon review of the pictures, the colors seemed ok, the paper is Fuji Crystal Archive paper and feels hefty. The matte finish is good. The one thing I probably should have done was to have gone through the pictures that Michelle took inside Fort Mackinac were just a tad dark. I wasn't too worried about it when looking at them on the computer, but when they were printed; it seems to have made the darkness even more apparent. No big deal, you can see everything fine, it just looks like there should have been a bit more ooomph to the flash. Maybe, she could have not taken such wide shots. In any case, for $14.81, ordered on Monday night and delivered on Saturday; ding-ding-ding, we have a winner:) Now that I have a new camera, I will probably try a couple other places, just to see if there really is any difference in quality. Blondie suggested in the comments that I try Kodak. Their prices are higher, but maybe the quality is better. I suppose it cannot hurt to spend a couple bucks to develop some pictures with them. Maybe I will submit some of the Fort pictures and see how they turn out with the Kodak site. I usually live by "you get what you pay for". I don't mind paying a bit more if the quality rocks! |

| Online photo processing... | ||
|
On Monday, Michelle picked up the pictures at Wal-mart in Rhinelander. Upon first inspection, things seemed ok as I was looking through the 4x6 prints. Nice glossy paper, color was great, pics really looked nice. Michelle was opening the envelope that was supposed to contain three 8x10 photos. It only had two. Checked the packing list; yup, there are three in there, but yet, I can only find two. By that time I was getting deep into the stack of 67 4x6 prints. Hmmmm... A repeat picture, then another, then yet another. WTF??? I only ordered one of each. Sure enough, they excluded twelve prints from my original order and replaced them with twelve duplicate prints. WTF??? I check my online cart and order and can clearly see the prints they missed and the prints they duped. WTF??? Sorry, all I could say was, "WTF???". Call the toll-free number and discuss my problem with some lady. She is very apologetic, but without any explanation. She gives me an immediate credit for the 8x10 that was missing from the order and instructs me to take the duplicated prints back to the store for a refund. Twelve prints @ $0.15 hardly makes this worthy of a trip totaling 60 miles. They're sitting on the kitchen counter for the next trip. I started looking around, searching etc, for a new place. Nic at work suggested ShutterFly.com. They were kind of expensive. Googling along I finally came across WinkFlash.com. Reasonable prices, plus!!!
So, I said to myself... "Self, WTF, you can hardly go wrong to try it...". I did, uploading the pictures was not too bad, takes a long time to upload the hi-res images, but part of that reason is my upload rates being castrated by Charter:) I uploaded all the pics from our most recent trip to Michigan on Monday night. Tuesday, I received a message that my order shipped. I submitted 87 4x6 photos and 2 8x10 photos and the cost was $14.81. |

| Have you ever used... | ||

An online photo processing place for printing your digital pictures?? A co-worker did and I was amazed at the quality of the pictures for the price! He used the Wal-Mart Photo Center online. After seeing a couple of the pics he had done, I decided to try it out too. You can chose to have them sent to the store of your choosing. Cost is $0.15 per 4x6 print and a couple of bucks for 8x10. I got 67 4x6 and 3 8x10 prints for $16.93, including tax. There was no shipping because I had them sent to the store in Rhinelander. I could have paid a bit less ($0.12 per 4x6) and had them shipped to my door, but you still have to pay shipping and handling. You can even get them done in one hour for $0.19 per 4x6 print! I like the fact that you can pick and chose the prints you want processed!! I would always get so pissed off getting film developed only to find that a kid had grabbed the camera and taken a picture of the floor, 12 times!! Or the flash didn't go off and you had a black hole shot. Obviously, you wanna submit high resolution images, to get the best pic possible. For my test I submitted some pictures from a trip we took to Mackinaw City a few years back with BP and Family. I also had a couple 8x10's made up of the kids with their Grandpa. My pictures should be in Monday, I am chomping at the bit to see how they will turn out. On our most recent trip, I took all my digital pictures at 2048x1536, I used to take them at 1600x1200. I have some great shots of the kids with their Great-Grandma that I would like a few 8x10's of. I'll post a follow up on my thoughts about the pictures after I get them back. If you have used other places to process your digital photos let me know! |

| Long drive but, we made it!! | ||
|
We made it to Grand Rapids, MI!! 505 miles and 10 hours. We stopped for a few caches along the way, stopped once for lunch, once for gas, and one other time to deal with nature's calling... All in all, a good trip! Nice weather, not too terribly hot, but coulda been cooler, haha. Posted some pictures in the MoBlog. Went out to eat after getting settled in. The steak joint next door, Brann's, has some really good food. They also had some HUGE cocktails!! Michelle had the Mambo Strawberry Daiquiri and I had a Mambo Margarita. Kids enjoyed a couple non-mambo Dr. Pepper beverages. Tomorrow we're off to visit with Granny and have dinner with my Aunt Pat and Uncle Ger. I think another Aunt and a cousin or two may also show up. |

| Catching up... | ||
|
The dog days are here... Freakin hot!! Supposed to break tonight/tomorrow. Can't wait! Haven't felt like posting lately, even have a few pics on the camera to send the MoBlog. Try to get them up tonight, nothing great... Diet is going well, down 20 or so pounds. I was using the scale at work but since I left I started using the one at home. The one at home says I am down 23.5. I'll just ballpark and say 20. Michelle is losing too! I don't dare give any details for fear of getting my ass pepper sprayed and handcuffed, LOL!!! Sammi was in Dubuque, IA last week to visit the university down there. She had a good time. Mikey just got back from 3 days of Cub Scout camp. He had a blast and his voice is gone from all the yelling and screaming. Man, those peeps that do the camping with the kids gotta have some patience! I'd kill 'em all!! Michelle is doing her thing:) Working some overtime and now is going to take a couple days off of work so she can get something like 6 or 7 days off. She still has a ton of time she can take off. We're heading out of town in a couple days. Heading over to see my Grandmother, Aunt's, Unc's, and Cuz's over in Grandville, MI. That is just a bit south of Grand Rapids. We're going over the top and then down. Beats the hell outta going though Shitcago!!! Have plotted and planned some GeoCaches along the route. Some cool tools and queries you can run to get them with x miles of your route using an arc filter. Cool stuff:-) Along the 500 mile route there are 66 of them within 2 miles of the planned route. I did not include any of them close to home, under 50 miles, those we'll get other days. New job is going great. It sure is a different environment over the last joint:) No headless belly dancers roaming around yelling, "Earl, wake up, yer shitting the bed!!!!!". Hehe. Working on a nice little project to get me back in the flow of Cold Fusion programming again. |

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)
