Great Sadness!!
Michael Jackson has died!

No, not that Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter!  The Beer Hunter passed away from an apparent heart attack at the age of 65.  Too bad I am not drinking anymore, otherwise I would raise a glass to you, Beer Hunter.  I wanted to link to his site, but it seems to be overloaded and not in service right now.  Here is the article at CNN.

Also...  A quick thank you to DonKeyHoeTee who pointed out that my comments page was throwing an error.  I coded a fix and am guilty of not checking, hehe, I thought I was "all that" and didn't need to, haha.  Within minutes of fixing it, some lame ass spammer has already hit it.  I will be putting up a secret word box on the comments.  You will have to enter the secret word.  If you know anything about me, you might have a good idea what that secret word might be....  Hmmm, perhaps some kind of "hunter"...  Hmmmmm...  We'll see who can figure it out by posting a comment.  Just don't be a dick and reveal that word in the comments...  hehe.

Not much going on...
Post vacation...  Getting back into the swing of things, haha, two weeks later and I am still saying that.

Doing some things to improve my health, as are other members of the family.  More on that later...  It has been going really well these past two weeks!

Getting geared up for a trip to VMWorld in San Francisco, September 10-14.  We'll be staying in the South of Market district, pretty close to the Moscone Center where the event will be held, no rental car needed.  We'll be pretty busy and there won't be much time for touristy stuff, but, we'll get some in.  If we can get to the hotel quick enough, we're thinking about ditching the bags and heading to AT&T Park to catch a Giants game.  The stadium is pretty close by and from I have seen, impressive looking, and right on the bay.  We're also within walking distance of the Powell and Market cable car station.  Looking forward to that excursion.  The event is also sponsoring a big party on the 12th.  Should be a good time.  I expect to learn plenty and get many, many, many more ideas on how better to utilize virtualization technologies.

Kids are gearing up for school...  All that school shopping stuff is done.  Mike's first year in middle school and Sam's second year of high school.  Damn I am getting old!!

We went GeoCaching last Saturday around here and picked up another 7, I think it was 7...  We're up to 83 or so, we started this year in the upper 50's!!  It was fun to get out with the family.

Was recently contacted by a cousin I never knew!  Pretty cool because I have pictures of her, her Mom and Dad, and my Mom and Dad back in about 1964 at a beach, maybe the ocean.  They were in Philly at the time.  This site has been good for getting some contacts.  If you're into that genealogy stuff, get a domain name with your name in it!  A big howdy to Kathleen out there in San Diego!  Too bad VMWorld isn't there!!  I'd skip a few sessions to meet her and her family!

We ditched our land line telephone!  We have gone with all cell phones now.  I upgraded my phone to the Palm Treo 700wx and Mike took the hand me down.  In these last few weeks it has made a huge difference!!  Much quieter around here.  I don't really think I will appreciate it until those bastard politicians start the onslaught of automated phone dialers and canned digital messages.  Screw those bastages!!

Home Sweet Home...
We made it home yesterday and spent the better part of yesterday vegging out and getting unpacked.  Michelle is the terminator of unpacking...  Damn!

We took 100's and 100's of pictures.  I have been working on getting them off the laptop and onto the desktop and working through some of them.  Have also been busy uploading images to GeoCaching.com from all the caches we hit while gone.  I just finished sending about 20 new entries to the MoBlog, and have more to add, but these will be enough to start.  Head on over and check it out.  I am sure that in the weeks to come, I will post some more pictures, somewhere.  Got a couple beers left over from the trip and will be working to kill them off as I write this up.  Rather than a big long post about all the crap we did, I figured bulleted lists of highlights and lowlights would suffice...

Highlights:
  • Put 700 miles on the Durango
  • GeoCaching...  Got back into this and hit 17 of them
  • Fishing...  Even though we caught nothing, it was just fun to sit there with a worm soaking.
  • View from the cabin of the lake
  • Loons
  • Ducks
  • Deer
  • Stopped at a micro brewery, Lake Shore Brewing Company in Grand Marais, MI.  Great beer, good pizza, and the best friggin cheesy bread sticks I have EVER had!!!
  • Not being smack in the middle of town but being within a 12 minute drive of town
  • Lake Superior Cruises...  While expensive, ya just gotta do them!
  • Waterfalls...  The Munising area is loaded with them
  • Fresh ground coffee every morning....  Our hosts, who were super friendly, provided a basket full of goodies which included muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee beans, maps and information on the area, and then later in the week, she delivered home made cinnamon rolls.  They also own the Falling Rock Cafe and Bookstore in Munising.  Great lunches there, have the Ruben if you go, and there is a GeoCache amazingly close by!!  I became spoiled by the fresh ground coffee.  So Michelle bought me a grinder and we brought home the rest of the beans.
  • No TV!!  Even though there was two TVs with satellite, we never turned them on.
  • Michelle was able to read a book, Sam nearly finished one, and Mike did some reading too.
  • Not having a reliable cell phone signal.  Helped to keep Sam off the phone, and me too, haha.  Main house did have a phone in case we needed one.
  • High speed WIFI connection to the Internet.  I only checked mail and weather a couple times a day, but it was nice when I needed it...  Especially for the soon to be mentioned comment spammers.
  • Good air conditioning in the Durango!!!!  Only thing that saved me between caches!!
  • Not having to smell a stinky dog (Jake) once!!  Although, in our caching travels, we did get our share of road skunks!!  Ewwww...  Jake spent a week with the fine folks at T & M Kennels.
  • Views...  Be it the Pictured Rocks, the waterfalls, the wildlife, the Great Lakes, the _____________ (fill in the blank), it was great!  We spent a while at one cache location that was way off the beaten path on Lake Superior, wow...  If the water was 15 degrees hotter, you would have thought you were in the Caribbean.
Lowlights:
  • Put 700 miles on the Durango...  GAS IS EXPENSIVE!!  haha
  • Heat!  It was hotter than hell for most of our time there.  The cabin had no AC, so it was a little uncomfortable sleeping.
  • Full moon!  Looked like we had a street light outside, haha.
  • Back pain.  My back is wasted.  Too much walking and then the ride home put me in a bad way.  Normally my right leg and lower right side of my low back don't hurt much, it is usually on the left, not yesterday.  Had to have Michelle finish driving home.
  • Comment spammers!!  Bastards made me break out the laptop a few times and code up a block for the new ones.  My new cell phone isn't setup to nuke those crap messages those bastards leave.  But, it is now!!  All I need is a signal and I can nuke the spammers message.  Now this site does get a ton of hits each month and it is amazing to me how people happen by via search engines, but damn, these spammers just love figuring out a way in.  I may start something new to help combat those jack-asses.
  • Nintendo Gameboy and DS...  The next vacation the kids will be leaving those at home, haha.
  • Wasn't able to finish my book.  Took two along, just in case, but only made it 3/4 of the way through one.
  • Having to come home!!
I am sure I forgot a bunch of stuff...  It was probably the best 7 consecutive days I have ever had, even with the oppressive heat.  Family, peace and quiet, and good beer.  What more does a man need??

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)
