That said, I did wish my beloved wifey-poo a very happy birthday yesterday, but it totally slipped my mind to mention it here... So here it is...Happy Birthday, Wifey-Poo, I Love You!!Now hurry up and get home! The dishes, laundry, vacuum, and dog miss you very much!!

| Happy Turkey Day | ||
I woke up at 8:30 this morning, let the dog out, put on my sneakers with every intention to hit the treadmill sometime this morning, made a fresh pot of coffee, and hit the office to check e-mail and to make sure that all was right in the world with my web server and customers. I notice my BP folder has a couple new messages, cool...info on what time to hit up his house for mass amounts of turkey and malted beverages. In addition to details about the feeding times, he also sent me the following. I laughed my ass off and was hoping that maybe someone would hit this site today and enjoy it as much as I did. If you don't like it, head over to his website and use his contact us page and tell him so, hehe. You can also give him some shit about not updating the front page of his website since May 24, 2006!!A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a an attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. |

Got rid of the wife and kids! They headed down to Waukesha to visit Michelle's mom, who had surgery last week (get well soon mom), and to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends from down south. Michelle really enjoys being around her family at this time of year, her birthday is just a few short days away. I'm sure part of the reason she likes to be back at home at this time of the year is because of all the good memories she has of being with her family on her birthday. The other reason is she loves turkey!! haha. I'm not entirely sure what I am going to do... I am working this week, except for Thanksgiving day. I had thought about taking Friday off, but we have been thrown a last minute, high priority project, which is pretty typical of my employer at this time of year. The busiest time of year is just about upon us and this is the last minute push to get some enhancements out onto the web sites before all those pet lovers come along and part with their money... The next couple of weeks can be pure hell, or pure fun...that mostly depends on the state of our web and database servers, traffic load, mass marketing e-mail campaigns, and of course, the aforementioned project going live. Last year was pure hell, crazy growth and traffic kept us doing CPR on the servers for about two weeks. Really good growth this year too, but, we have added three more kick ass web servers to the farm to handle all that traffic. I think I am going to finish off the last of my cocktail, let the dog out, and retire early. I haven't been able to do that lately. If i don't make another post before the big turkey day, have a nice holiday! |

Remember those morons I wrote about a few days ago who had camped out at the Burbank, CA. Best Buy store with hopes of scoring the latest Playstation 3? Hehe, well, they were ordered to leave. In a way, I kinda feel sorry for the über nerds, hell, they waited for four days before management called the cops and had them removed. Here is a short article and link to another article where they interviewed them. |

| Haha, referer log fun! | ||
My old Internet friend, Jeff, over at Buzzcat.net does this from time to time... He posts interesting search phrases that show up in logs from his domain. These are keywords and phrases that people enter into Google, Yahoo, or MSN and eventually find your site. I was looking back through the reports in October and it seems that the post i made in September of 2006 really generated a ton of hits on some odd search phrases...
Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see that a number of people, actually about 75 hits came in from Google on the following. Sure enough! Number four result on Kagen and top of second page for Gard!! Kagen is that piece of crap Congressman who now represents our district. Unfortunately, he won the election, but both him and his opponent, John "I am a moron" Gard, managed to really put a sour taste in my mouth over how an election campaign should be handled. I can't wait to see how many more show up on that. Anyway, I thought I would share some of those. Thanks again to Jeff for the good idea! I will probably do this again in the future, when I find something that trips my trigger. |

| Ebonics to text speak... | ||
|
My how we have evolved as a species... How long before kids in the United States will be able to use text speak in place of actual written words? Check out this article about New Zealand allowing their kids to use text speak in national exams. WTF? (I meant to say that) The English language is the absolute worst language in all of the world, but damn, now they'll further obliterate it with text speak? I like to use some text speak when it is appropriate, like when I am CHATTING, not when I am taking a friggin exam. I gave Sammi a hard time the other day because we were chatting and she was using that crap. I told her when she chats with me I would like her to show me that her education is paying off by actually spelling out the words, haha. Oh yeah, while we were chatting, she was downstairs and I was upstairs!! LOL!! OMG!! i wz chattin w her whIl we wer n d sAm hows, oh my god i cnt BlEv dat we wud b doin dat!! And no, this is not how things normally go around here! A big thanks to transl8it.com for actually helping me to write that! I need one of them translators for helping me to decipher BP speak some days. What's next? Drop me a line using the Live Help link at the bottom of the right nav bar if you have an idea of the next big language twist will be. Quite a few posts this month... |

| First BIG Snow of 2006!! | ||
|
We got dumped on yesterday!! The snowfall rates per hour were insane! I pretty much showed up for work about 7:45 AM and there was nothing, within a half hour we had nearly 2 inches of snow on the ground. Last night the local TV station in Rhinelander, AKA, Podunk News, was reporting 12.5 inches in Rhinelander and 13.4 inches in Hiles, which it just a few miles from Crandon. I didn't get out the measuring device, but it appears to be a good foot + out there. I posted a couple camera phone pics on the Moblog, click on the picture below to head over there. |

| Are you a hardcore gamer? Like waiting in line?? | ||
|
Would you wait in line 8 hours for the chance to purchase the latest Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) for $599? Would the prospect of knowing that, if you were one of the lucky few to actually be close enough to the head of the line to buy one, you could double, triple, and maybe even quadruple your money by selling it on eBay encourage you to wait in line? How long would you wait? 8 hours? 16 hours? 24 hours? 2 days? Well, some morons have already been in line since Monday the 6th at a Best Buy in Burbank, CA. I don't think this story actually names the stores location, but after a little while online today, I was able to find out it was Burbank. Some people had posted pictures of the line in a forum I checked out, sorry don't have that link anymore. I saw a Walmart ad today that indicated each of their stores would have a "minimum of 10 units" at 12:01 AM on November 17th, 2006. I smell riots, anarchy, chaos, hate, and all over a stupid friggin gaming system. The younger dudes I work with are all scheming on how to score one and when to get into line at the local Wally World for their cash cow. The latest details I heard was that one dude was going to show up to Wally World about 18 hours early and had even taken a vacation day. Haha. I sure hope he can score one after burning a vacation day! If he does cash in, and if the eBay buyer is legit, he is using the proceeds to purchase a new computer. Personally, I think my co-workers are all a little bit screwed up in the head and I suspect that each has taken to secretly sniffing the big magic marker I have stashed in my desk drawer! Note to co-workers: If you are sniffing my marker, knock it off, it's mine to sniff!!! Maybe 15 years ago, when I was their age, maybe I would have thought that was a good idea too, but not now! I can't stand to be in a Walmart for half an hour while the oil gets changed in my car and I mindlessly walk around the store in a daze. I could never hang out in the same friggin spot for anywhere from 8 to 18 hours. Holy crap. Now, if i was guaranteed to get a PS3 for waiting in line 8 hours and getting an opportunity to double or triple my money by selling it on eBay, then I would find a wheelchair and a bed pan to sit on for 8 hours. I'll let ya know on the 17th if they scored one. They said they will be calling and sending cell phone pictures of their victory and to rub it in my face. I got Michael at home counting down the days to his 11th birthday and I got them emmer effers at work counting down the days to the PS3 release. I can't win at home OR at work! |

No political crap or stories of telephone abuse from this day forward*. I thought this article was funnier than hell!! You have to read how India is now sending jobs here!! And to think, just two short years ago I was stressing about the big corporate layoffs and the outsourcing of my company's developer jobs to China. Maybe, just maybe, if QuadraMed gets sold I can find my way back into my old job. This time, through an Indian recruiter who is recruiting for an American developer to take a job that used to be done by an Indian. LMAO!! *. I reserve the right to start bitching the very minute my phone rings from some derelict bureaucrat bashing another derelict bureaucrat! |

| Ahhhh, finally, no ringing phone! | ||
|
Hope you got out and cast your vote today! We here in the Huml house are enjoying the peace and quit! I can tell you one thing, they sure pissed Michelle off yesterday!! She works the overnight shift and has been putting in overtime lately; getting sufficient sleep has been hard for her lately. Every hour or so the frickin phone would ring and wake her up. She had to check who it was because, you know, we have kids in school and ya never know what disease they will manufacture to get out of school. Plus, she was expecting a call from the doctor. But no, every time it was some frickin dumb ass politician trying to tell us the other candidate was a lump of crap. I was really surprised when she told me that Laura Bush had called back! I would have figured she wouldn't call back after the other day. I kinda enjoyed talking dirty to her on the telephone!!. Hmmm, maybe she enjoyed herself too... I would not have thought that she enjoyed it, Laura seemed kinda cold on the phone, like she wasn't into it... If she is gonna call me on her dime, she could at least pretend she was into it... Threw my mojo off. I think I received a telephone call last night similar to that of what DonKeyHoeTee received a while back. Here is the deal... For many, many weeks we get one, maybe two calls per night from a number that does not come up on caller id, it simply says "Out of area Out of area". When you pick up the phone and say hello, there is never anyone there. I have said hello a couple of times and generally wait a few seconds before muttering something really nasty and hanging up. Usually, within a half hour or forty-five minutes after that first call, I will get a second call. Same deal, "hello? ... hello? ... ^$&&*^%", and hang up. Last night, wash, rinse, repeat... Phone rang, same crap, nobody there, but this time I waited about 15 seconds before hanging up, nothing. Forty-five minutes later, here it comes again. This time I stay on the phone watching Monday Night Football with the phone to my head. Many, many seconds pass, maybe 30... I didn't pay attention to a clock, but suddenly I hear, "hello?". I ask, "who is this?". The caller replies, something along these lines, "Is this Gerald Paul Huml?, my name is {insert loser name here}, I am calling on behalf of the Wisconsin Sheriff''s and....". That was as far as he got.... Remember that poor girl who called about two weeks ago on behalf of that moron Steve Kagen? Well, the smack down I put on her could best be described as a Sunday sermon when you compare it to how badly I lit this emmer effer up!! When I demanded to know how he got my number, he had the stones to tell me that I "had made a past contribution to their organization". We don't make donations to ANYONE or ANY GROUP, period! Never have, never will... We'll donate clothing to Goodwill and other women's and kid stuff to shelters for battered women, but never to a professional organization collecting money on behalf of anyone!! 99% of the time, these frickin organizations are using a name to get your trust, like the "Policeman's Benevolence Society" or "Wisconsin State Police and Fireman's Association". It's just a frickin scam to line their pockets! Sure, some money will actually make its way to some department as a donation, but like the Red Cross, most will be wasted in "administrative" expenses. Michelle is a member of some Sheriffs Deputy organization through work, but that doesn't explain how they got my full name! Only my enemies call me Gerald Paul Huml, and maybe a judge or two in my past, hehe. So anyway, back to the reaming... I gotta hand it to the dufus, he hung in there... He took everything I had to give and he even offered an apology at the end. I'll be curious to see if I get an invoice for a donation like DKHT did. I must say that I did feel better afterwards. I have been wondering for so long why these calls kept coming in and who they were from. If you get calls like that, wait for a while and then scream your fool head off at the poor emmer effer that eventually answers. Better yet, find an old coaches whistle and blow it in the phone when they answer!! Hopefully I can settle down before the stresses of the Yuletide season start jacking me up into some kind of monster. |

| A new poll and results from the last poll | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
I posted a new poll today, over in the right nav area. I am curious, will you vote on November 7th? I will, so if you happen to show up and see 100% for yes, that is me, haha. If hope nobody votes no... I haven't come up with a page for past poll results yet, but I thought it was interesting to see that in my previous poll that "None of the above they're all corrupt" received more votes over voting for the Libertarian party. It would be nicer if there would have been more votes, I forget what the total was, maybe 30 or 40... I suspect them Democrats were dumping cookies and running up the count, haha.
Oh yeah... Jeff over at Buzzcat.net sent an e-mail to me today inquiring about Ubuntu and wanting more info on that after reading my post from yesterday. I was stoked when he said he would give it a go! Even if you have no means to download a 700 meg ISO and burn it, you can get the CD mailed to you for free!! Albeit an older version, but hell, it's free!! Break the Microshat stranglehold now, BEFORE you fall victim to that crappy EULA from Vista!! |

| WARNING!!! Nerd Posting!! | ||
|
I am not sure how many of my 2.3 readers have ever had to bother with reading a EULA (end user license agreement), but they can be icky to look at. Especially, especially, if the EULA is from Microsoft, herein referred to as Microshat. It would seem that Microshat is really trying to alienate its user base. Windows Vista has an UGLY EULA!! Here is a great article that highlights some of the shattier parts of the EULA. Not only is their EULA very restrictive, they will have not one, not two, but six different versions of Vista. Do you know which version you will need or want? The hardware requirements of Vista are enough to make most CEO's and CIO's already declare that Vista will have no place in their organization. I agree 100%!! Are you sick of the Microshat way? Wanna different alternative? Try Ubuntu or Kubuntu!! I have been playing with Linux distributions for years and years. I have always loved Unix systems and Linux is looking more and more like the way to go. I have set a personal goal to run Linux at least 90% of the time by the end of 2007. Currently I have Ubuntu loaded on my laptop. I gave Sammi the Live CD for her to try on her laptop. I like Ubuntu for its simplicity... I can get hardcore command line and go toe-to-toe with just about anyone in the Unix world, but you don't have to get into the nitty-gritty with Ubuntu. No need to be a command line guru here, but you can be, if you wanna. I have tried them all, Red Hat, Fedora, Mandrake/Mandriva, Slackware, FreeBSD, and lots of others. Check out the About Us page at the Ubuntu website. I have given away stacks of old Linux CDs. A quick inventory of the short stack on my desk right now is 3 cds and 3 dvds of different distros, not to mention the dozen or so in storage. You may be wondering what the difference is between Ubuntu and Kubuntu, well, Ubuntu runs the Gnome desktop and Kubuntu runs the KDE desktop. If you are at all familiar with KDE, you know that they preface most of their application names with a 'K', like Kmail or Kedit. Which is better? Neither, I love both! As a matter of fact when I usually install a full blown system I would install both and work between them. The best part... It's free and it's frickin fast! You can run Linux on old machines and it works well! A friend of mine is running a Fedora Core 6 development server on an old PIII and he is amazed at the speed. Stop giving your money to Bill Gates and Microshat, you have an alternative!! |

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)
