Mike turned 13 yesterday! He will be having a little birthday party over in Rhinelander today at the bowling alley. He has 3 or 4 friends attending and has a couple of cousins who will be up north visiting. Bowling, pizza, and all the soda they can drink. haha, I can invision a few upset stomachs later, haha.
Mike is 13 now and Sam is just a few months from turning 17... Wow, seems like only yesterday that they were born!!

Happy Labor Day...
|
A hurricane is a blowin on shore. I bottled my porter today, it tastes yummy! My Mom celebrated a birthday last week, I called her on her birthday, but spaced out calling her back this weekend. Bad son I am. Michelle worked the holiday weekend and so the kids and I hung out. Friggin hot outside, but the AC is nice, haha. Supposed to get cold this week. We already have some leaves turning color! The kids go back to school tomorrow, hahahahaha. Sam as a Junior and Mike into seventh grade. Damn, they're getting old. Heading off to Vegas in a couple weeks for VMWorld. I attended last year in San Fran and this year it is in Vegas.
Well, that's enough. Y'all are caught up now! haha

In Memoriam ~ Conny
|
A number of years ago I found a person in the Netherlands who had mentioned this site and linked to it. That was the start to a really cool friendship that has spanned the miles and the years. Because of that friendship I've made some other friends online and had my mind opened to some really kick ass music through his little show, Freak Magnet. Well, the other day, Dolf, one of the Bloggernauts listed in my links to the right, posted a message that his wife had passed away. I was floored! I immediately emailed him and tried to offer what words I could, although there could not possibly be words enough to help a man who is coming to grips with losing the woman he loved for 27 years. All too often people don't know how to deal with others distress or misfortune. They neglect saying anything for fear of possibly opening a wound or causing more stess. Not me... I did have a hard time expressing what I wanted to say to Dolf in an email. I think that was the first time I had to do that. I couldn't just leave a comment on his blog, it didn't feel right. In time I might, but not now. For now I wanted it to be personal and directly from me and not necessarily something that others would read. I hope some day that Dolf makes it to the USA or that I make it to the Netherlands, would love to share a couple of beers with him!
Godspeed, Conny!

Happy Fourth of July!
|
I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th holiday! Michelle has to work the weekend this year, ah well, hopefully she can sneak out of work to come watch the kids in the parade. We have only a couple more weeks to go and we'll be heading into the UP for a week in a cabin on a lake. Really need to get away and unplug for a bit.
Stay safe this weekend!

Whoa, been a long time!
|
Wow, the neglect, the shame, the horror of it all!! Yeah, I admit it, this site gets less and less attention. I have been blogging more and more at my site, choosing to leave this more for generic family stuffs.
Let's see, we've had Mother's Day, Father's Day, Mike's little league season, school ending, a beer fest, so much going on!
Anyways, a happy belated Mother's and Father's day to all of you out there, including my own parents, in-laws, wifey, and yeah, me too!
I didn't mention it here, but made mention on my other site... I was promoted to Assistant Manager. We're doing some restructuring with how/who we report to and better aligning resources so we have less headache working across departments and management. I think the changes are for the better. I am certain there are a couple of my co-workers that don't share that sentiment; I think that comes from the fact that they now have to accept direction from me. We'll see how that goes. So far, so good... We're in the process of reviewing resumes and getting ready to do interviews starting next week when I get back to work. I am very thankful that I am very involved in that process. In fact, my boss has said that he would like me to handle the first interview and do the weeding out. I like that he has that trust in me.
Mike's little league team wound up being co-champions with another team. I guess they don't do playoff games or anything, which I guess is fine, seeing how we may have lost. Or, we may have won, in any case, more kids are happier this season since two teams won. This was Mike's last season. One of his coaches was a real nice guy, the other one, not so much... He seemed more concerned with criticizing any other kid accept his own. Own well, favoritism bullshit, happens everywhere. Congrats to Mike and his team! It was a good season.
School ended a few weeks ago and now the kids are chillin out and relaxing after such a brutal year... Yeah right! Brutal my butt! I think I did more homework in my first semester of high school than Sam has done in two full years!! So now next year Sam will be a Junior and Mike will be in seventh grade. Back on June 9th, it was the 25th anniversary of my own high school graduation. There is a bunch of planning going on for a reunion this year. I won't be going... Two reasons: 1) I've seen maybe one name in the email list of people that I would possibly even like to see. Most of the people in the list are people that I couldn't stand in high school and I just don't see how 25 years would change that. The people who I was close with in high school I am still in contact with these days. Not going to spend a couple nights in a hotel and the travel costs to attend. 2) I have a wedding to go to on the day of the event, cool! A friend of mine, from high school, her nephew is getting married up here on August 8th, so we'll go hang with them and enjoy a good time.
Beer fest was a blast! Except for the camping part. My back is still screwed from that deal. Screw camping. Next year, hotel city for me, baby! BP can pitch his tent, I am getting a hot tub room! I didn't take the camera, Michelle had that down state for a couple of graduations. Our niece, Cassie graduated this year and our nephew Paulie graduated this year too.
Sam had a job interview yesterday at a nursing home as an aide assistant. Would be nice for her to get a job this summer. She wants to save money for a car and the amount we pay her for keeping the house in shape and the chores ain't gonna cut it. She has her road test on August 5th, so hopefully she'll be able to pass. She's been doing a VERY good job at driving! She needs to do more with driving my Yota, cuz, well, that is the only car of ours she'll be allowed to drive solo.
I got my drivers license renewed yesterday. Wow, what a scary picture! My face is still red from the sunburn last weekend at beer fest. Combine the red face with an overexposed picture and I look bad! haha. I know, i know, I look bad any other time too, but this picture ain't helping me out at all!
If you've been to my other website and have been prompted for a username and password and are wondering what is going on. Well, I've made the decision to make that an invite site only. In other words, if I don't want you reading what I wrote, you can't. There are valid reasons for that. I will discuss that there, not here. So if you'd like to read what happens at PaulHuml.com, drop me a line and tell me you want to read it. Chances are, if you're not in my inner circle of friends, you will be told to piss off...
I think that is enough for now!! haha

Prom Night
|
Sammi is off to prom tonight... She just got back home from having gone out to eat with some friends and she'll be going up to the school for prom. Then, they have a post prom party at one of the local bars, haha, yeah, I know what you're thinking! Just cuz we live in Podunk, doesn't mean the kids can have free run at the local boozers, haha. No, the bar is alcohol free and the kids are more or less locked in for the duration. They sign in and once they sign out, they are no longer allowed to come back in. It's a pretty cool deal... Kids can win prizes and stuff. I think the last couple of years they have given away a computer as the big prize. Of course Sam, the nerd she is (just like dad), has her eye on that prize. As does EVERY kid that attends.
Once we lose Sam to the prom festivities, Michelle, Mike, and I will be heading to a wedding reception here in town for one of Michelle's co-workers. It should be fun!
In other news, Michelle was part of the group who were named Telecommunicator of the Year for their efforts in the tragedy that struck Crandon last October. There are some mixed feelings about the recognition, as can be expected, due to the tragic nature. As well as the fact that it was, well, one of their own who did it. But, I for one am proud of her and the rest of her co-workers for their efforts and just recognition. Michelle wasn't able to attend the picture taking for the newspaper, she was teaching CPR that night in Rhinelander. She didn't mind not being on teh front page of the paper, haha.

Happy Easter
|
Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate this religious holiday! I won't get into my religious beliefs here, cuz it is my deal... Y'all do what you want and I won't make fun of your convictions. As for our house today, you can't tell it is Easter around here. Michelle is working today and the kids are getting to that age where they don't need baskets chocked full of candy and other stuffs. Besides, with 3/4 of the house dieting, we certainly don't need the temptation around here!! hahaha I'll likely make up some pork tenderloin for dinner today, maybe with a semi-fatty noodle dish, and a salad of course.
Speaking of diet... I am at 81 pounds lost now since August 5th. I would love to get to 100 by summer time. For sure the goal is to get it done within 1 year!! Once I get to a hundo, I only have another hundo to go to be where the "charts" say I should be. Screw those charts! If I could drop 125-150, I would be happier than hell. The pounds these days are slow in coming off, but too, I haven't been doing everything I should. Caving to temptation results in less weight lost, haha. I haven't gotten a number from Michelle, but she tells me almost weekly that she is down another pound. I would bet she is closing in on 30 pounds. She looks hot, BOOM-CHICKA-WAH-WAH, but then again, I have always known that she was hot, wink-wink. Sammi is more secretive about her weight loss and that's cool! We just encourage her to eat well portioned meals and avoid unhealthy stuffs.

Sadness
|
Michelle's uncle passed away a few days ago. She'll be heading down for the wake and funeral. The kids and I will be staying home, they have school, and I don't have much vacation time to spare. My employer won't give me a day off for my own uncle, let alone Michelle's uncle. He was a nice man, but the kids and I didn't know him well. He loved fishing and going to the casinos.
Godspeed Norwin!

Where does the time go?
|
I had meant to get out here and post a message a few days after Sam's birthday but have totally forgotten about it. I was posting a couple posts on my blog this morning and figured, crap, better get caught up here too.
Sam had a great birthday! She got a 16 gig iPod Touch. One gig for every year. Worked out pretty good, hehe. That is a cool little gadget! I am not a big fan of Apple crap and Steve Jobs is an a-hole, but this think was pretty cool! The Safari browser is pretty neat. Viewing web pages is nice! Had no problem getting it hooked up to the wifi at home, only had to add the MAC address to the router. Sam doesn't have 100's of gigs of music or anything, so the size for now is good. She's loaded up some of her favorite pictures and tunes and is happy as can be. Makes me lust for an iPhone now. And now since Cellone has been purchased by AT&T, it may one day, become reality. If only AT&T had MyCircle like Alltel does. Man, with the MyCircle and nights and weekends starting at 7pm, we only ever use a couple hundred minutes of our "anytime" minutes in a month. I never talk that much on the phone anyway, I just use it for the data plan so I can surf the web, get email, and take car of my server if need be.
Michelle and I are gearing up for a "date day" over in Rhinelander today. She is up at the Sheriff's Department working out and will be home shortly. We'll go do shopping and stuffs and stop in for a Bucketheads' World Famous Garlic Cheese Burger. By the way, the owner of that website, BarAndRestaurantCentral.com is a friend of mine. If you want your bar and/or restaurant setup on his site, tell him Paul sent ya! Maybe I will get a kickback!! Hahaha
Diet has kind of stalled. But I think it is just a bump in the road. We had a couple bad weeks there and are back on track, with the exception of this afternoon. Michelle lost 3 more in the past couple weeks. I gained a few, but then lost them. All is good! Got sick there for a while, pretty much everyone has had it in some form or another. Michelle has to have a CT Scan this week. She has a polyp in her sinus cavity that they found a few years ago. It is causing her some problems, so they want to see if it is getting bigger. If so, they may have to send chisels and air hammers up her nose to bust it out. Not fun... So, send the good positive ju-ju Michelle's way this week. The one good thing is, she really likes the doctor. This is the same surgeon that did both surgeries to remove the cancerous thyroid. This is his specialty.
I dunno what else to say... Nothing that I haven't already said over at the other blog.

Keep a tight one... (Thanks Jimmy)

Laurie got offended that I used the word "puke." But to me, that's what her dinner tasted like.

What's In A Name?
|
|
My Aunt tracked back the family tree on my Moms side of the family, she was able to go all the way
back into the 1400's in Scotland to
James Hamilton!!! Pretty amazing, it has sparked an interest in me to get some genealogy software
and start scouring the net and other resources so I can track back the Huml name. If you "name surfed"
in here and you are a Huml, drop me a line!! I have setup a mailing list for
other Humls, contact me and I will send you the information you need to sign up. I don't want to make it a "public" list on the net, keep away the SPAMMERS!!!

Web Site With A GOOD Cause!!
|
|
In March of 1999, a good friend of mine lost his 18 year old daughter in a van crash that killed 6 others and left 5
others very badly injured, some for life. Please check out his page, he is working to have legislation passed so that
other young kids who fall victim to the lure of easy money will not have to die!!
Dedicated Memorial
You can e-mail him here.

We hope that you come back and check this site often.
